Learn how Starfish, when synced with Blackboard, offers screens to help faculty and advisors review log-in and performance information unique to a student in a quick glance, therefore initiating a quality advising conversation. Additionally, learn how Starfish is helping faculty and advisors monitor and encourage online course log-in and face-to-face course attendance. These developments have tremendous opportunity to help faculty and staff advocate for students and collaborate with peers, all while consolidating their work!

With the support of a strategic planning grant, during the Fall 2012 semester, we launched the Online Liaison Project. The goal of this project was to create a service that would help struggling online students be more successful. To this aim, we hired someone who was familiar with teaching online in Blackboard at Quinsigamond Community College and with our advising system to act as the conduit between concerned online faculty members participating in the project and academically at-risk online students. We then created a simple online form that faculty members teaching the 20 online liaison-supported classes could use to contact the liaison. Turn the clock forward four years and the online liaison now supports all of our online students in approximately 200 classes a semester. We also have replaced the online form with Starfish, an early alert and intervention system that we use to connect students with the members of their support network, such as their instructors, advisor, and the online liaison. This presentation will explain how this service works, how we grew the service, and how we have integrated Starfish into our process. The presenters also will highlight the success stories of this service.
